As you may know, 911 calls are emergency calls with operators equipped with caller ID. In VoIP calls the emergency dispatcher cannot accurately pinpoint your exact location. Therefore, calling 911 through VoIP phones is not reliable.
However, companies today are developing ways to make it more reliable for VoIP phones when they call 911. They developed the E911 or the Enhanced 911 where the emergency dispatcher will get a calling number and your location flashed to his or her computer screen.
