There are various methods for cleaning blinds, depending on their type:
- Vinyl Louvers. These can be cleaned by regular dusting or vacuuming. A sponge blotted dry after dipping warm water with mild detergent solution can be used for removing soil. Static electricity can be removed if a thin layer of mild detergent is left on the louvers.
- Fabric Louvers. These can be cleaned similar to vinyl louvers; however, it is not advised to immerse them in water or dry clean them.
- Sheer Enchantment Vertical Blinds. These can be machine washed on gentle cycle in warm water mixed with mild detergent. Hang them on a clothesline while still damp; never put them in a dryer. Ironing or steaming can remove wrinkles.
- Aluminum Blinds, Faux Wood Blinds, and Vinyl Blinds are cleaned similar to Vinyl Louvers.
- Wood Blinds are cleaned by lightly vacuuming them. Use a clean soft damp cloth for removing the soil on painted finish wood blinds. Treat using a lemon or other wood preservatives on the stained finish wood blinds.
