How can I tell if my blinds are vinyl or aluminum?

There are four ways to determine whether your blinds are made of vinyl or aluminum:
- Scraping. If the paint comes off the blinds when they are scraped, then they are metal. Vinyl retains its color.
- Tapping. Use a knife to tap the blinds and listen to the sounds produced. Metal sounds different than vinyl.
- Slat inspection. If the slats are the same color on each side, they are vinyl; aluminum blinds have a bright aluminum color on one side.
- Bracket types can usually determine whether the blinds are vinyl or aluminum.
