Which microscope components do I need, and which can I do without?

Generally, you will need all the components of a microscope but you can do without with a few, or maybe one component, that will not affect the result of a particular examination. A filter holder is a swing-out circular carrier or C-shaped frame attached to the underside of the condenser body. It is used for reducing light intensity or introducing special lighting characteristics. However, with today’s digital color imaging, colored filters are not used that often.
