A thorough study was conducted by medical specialists. They have proven that although IBS can be a serious disorder it will never lead to colon or rectal cancer. However, if IBS persists over a long period it can later be associated with diverticulosis, another troublesome but benign condition affecting the pockets found in the intestine.
