The safest way to hang a mirror is to check for its original hanging device. Pull on the hanger to know whether it was mounted on the wood strongly and effectively, thus ensuring that it can carry and support the entire weight of the mirror. If the hanger is defective, replace it with D shaped hooks, commonly known as mirror mounts, attached to a pre-drilled metal strap having one or four holes.
Select the hook's size according to the mirror's weight. It is recommended to choose a four-holed metal strap for heavier weights. Install the hook on both sides at the mirror's back selecting a fifteen to twenty degree angle and using a screw that will not exceed the thinnest portion of the frame. Pass a gauged metal twisted wire along the D hook with an allowance of eight inches on both sides. You can use a standard picture hanger for standard weights, and studs or toggle bolts for heavier weights.
