There are some conventional medications that are used to eliminate or at least control the symptoms of IBS. Some of these are:
Anti-spasmodics - These are drugs such as Bentyl and Levsin. They usually offer significant relief of abdominal pain in IBS patients.
Antacids - Like anti-spasmodics, antacids also help relieve abdominal pain.
Anti-diarrheal drugs - Loperamide and Immodium are the common drugs for this category. They relieve the symptom but do not totally cure IBS.
Anti-depressants and muscle-relaxant drugs - These also help alleviate the symptoms of IBS.
