The causes of astigmatism are factors which make the cornea have different shapes, which leads the eye to have different focuses. These factors include:
- Corneal disease, like keratoconus;
- Corneal surgery, like radial keratotomy or post graft;
- Corneal injury, like a sharp foreign body;
- Genetics, including the inborn shape of the eye.
