NASCAR is referred to by many as a motor sport. However, many critics do not consider it a sport because the competition is more focused on control of the machine than control of the human body.
Furthermore, despite the safety measures that must be observed during any race, NASCAR racing is still considered a dangerous sport because it is so physically demanding. A NASCAR driver must endure temperatures exceeding 150 degrees Fahrenheit inside the car for more than three hours. Pit stop crews are also hazardously exposed to fire, debris, and fast-moving cars.
