During the 1999 season, NASCAR officials discussed whether they would limit the number of pit crew members per racing team in order to keep competition expenses low. At present, a NASCAR racing team can have as many pit crew members as they want on the track for a weekend race. On average, they are employing 18 crewmen on the track, including the crew chief, chief mechanic, car engineers, and other mechanics.
