Here are some tips for buying a new camping tent that will be convenient and hold up over time:
*Aluminium poles – They do not break as easily as fiberglass poles.
* Big rainfly – This is the waterproof "umbrella" of the tent, and the bigger the better.
* Folded seams and double stitching – See that the material used is double-stitched in order to prevent leaks and torn seams.
* One-piece "tub" floor – Check to make sure that the floor of the tent is all one piece of waterproof material and that it is joined to the walls a few inches up from the ground, not at ground level.
* Adequate guy lines - Make sure that the guy lines are sturdy and long enough to secure the tent properly. It is not comfortable to sleep in a tent that is being moved around by the wind.
* High quality stake loops – There should be a loop at each corner of the tent and at the center of each side. These also prevent the tent from being blown around by the wind.
* "No-see-um" mesh pockets, windows and door flap - For putting your trash in and keeping those nasty bugs out.
* Vented (mesh) roof – This serves two purposes: to let you feel and smell some fresh air when you are inside the tent, and to allow condensation to escape.
*Heavy-duty zippers – You will be going in and out of the tent a lot, so make sure that the zippers are sturdy ones.
