Scary things such as death, monsters, demons, ghosts, horror, and magic are associated with Halloween because these are all part of ancient Celtic tradition called "The Feast of the Living Dead," from which our modern Halloween celebration descends.
Scary things are also included in Halloween to boost the thrill and excitement for those who participate in the celebration, not to mention that all aspects of Halloween (the costumes, the treats, the parties, the spook alleys and haunted houses) have become a big money-making business in the United States.
