Gas permeable contact lenses are created from plastic. Utmost care should be given to this type of contact lens since they can easily be damaged by scratches and heavy exposure to dust or dirt. People who use this type of lens usually find it easier to wear than hard contact lenses.
Gas permeable lenses are often prescribed for people who have experienced edema or other problems with hard lenses. As the name implies, gas (namely, oxygen) can pass through these lenses to get to the surface of the eye, whereas it cannot pass through hard lenses. To be healthy, your eyes need oxygen.
