Color- or clarity-enhanced diamonds are treated, fracture-filled diamonds: that's why you would not want to buy one. In short, they are damaged gems.
The clarity and color of these diamonds are artificially enhanced by using a whole range of techniques. However, the treatment is not the problem, but rather the failure of the seller to disclose such treatment in writing to the buyer.
The Federal Trade Commission has set guidelines for these clarity/color-enhanced diamonds. Naïve diamond buyers should steer clear of such treated gems.
